Meet Chest, the band that is taking over the indie scene. I had the pleasure of speaking to them a few weeks ago about their plans with music and the influences behind their lyrics, this is what they said.
1. How did you get into music?
Each of us has had our own unique journey into music. For all of us, it was those formative musical experiences when we were younger—the bands we were into—that inspired us to make music. While we’ve followed different paths and come at it from different angles, there’s enough common ground for us to blend those influences and create a sound that feels authentic to each of us.
2. What's your plans for the rest of 2024?
Gigs, gigs, gigs! We’re really focusing on getting out on the road and playing shows, which we’ve been doing all year. We’ve just released an EP, so it’s exciting to finally play that material live now that people are familiar with it. Behind the scenes, we’re continuing to write and push our sound forward, creating more music that we love.
3. What has been the highlight of your career?
The highlight of our career so far has to be our headline gig in Norwich, without a doubt. It was a big moment for us, especially with the energy in the room—it was something we had been working towards for a long time and felt like everything really came together.
4. Which music artists do you look up too?
As we mentioned before, we all have our own musical backgrounds and influences, which I think is a strength. Our core sound draws heavily from ‘90s guitar-driven bands like Catatonia, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Pixies. At the same time, we’re inspired by a lot of modern artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, blending that classic guitar vibe with contemporary pop elements. It’s a mix that feels natural to us and really helps define our style. We also of course have to give a shout out to Goo Goo dolls.
