5 Questions with Fleeting Faces

Wednesday, 22 January 2025

For our first interview of 2025 I spoke to Fleeting Faces about their plans for 2025 and the gigs they are planning for this year, and this is what they said..

What made you get into music?

For me there was never any distinguish between being into music, and not. I’ve always had an obsession and explored it through music theory at school, music just stuck with me.

I was always into chart music as a kid and buzzed off 80s pop from the influence of my Mam. I have a vivid memory of being shown Teddy Picker by Arctic Monkeys in a PE locker room at school and it changed my life.

What are your plans for 2025?

The plan is to play as many gigs as possible so we can become part of the NE Music Scene furniture. Expanding our audiences by collaborating with other local bands is something we always aim to do.

Another goal of ours is to create a defined aesthetic for the band which we have already started with our social media. New music will be written in 2025 that will define this approach.

What has been your favourite gig and why?

Our favourite gig so far has got to be the first gig we ever done at Downcast Studios. It’s quite a weird feeling writing tunes privately that are going to be heard live. Where anyone can give their opinion on the thing you’ve spent 6 months knocking into shape. The relief and the adrenaline of when that gig happened was immense. Playing in front of your mates is the hardest gigs but we smashed it. Gateshead is where the band is from and was formed so to kick it off at our home was a great feeling.

What is the inspiration behind your music?

When we started Fleeting Faces there was never a blueprint set for a main inspiration. Fleeting Faces almost enraptures each members influences, we all bring different things to the table. Naturally, as music has been written you start to get these feelings of inspiration, in different songs you can hear elements of The Charlatans and other Manchester influence, Brian Jonestown Massacre creeps through into songs and you get a dissonance hazy sound.

Who are your favourite up-and-coming artists?

From trying to secure the band gigs, I have found loads of great local bands. Bosola are a great band that you just can’t seem to pin a genre on. They have went from Nick Drake like acoustic songs like Soil and Dust to their latest single Vanilla Beige which is a sort of punky tune that set you up for any night out. Also shoutout Shady Quid who are an Americana style band that released their ep Winter Sessions last year. They are a very tight band live with a frontman who knows what he’s doing.

Love Cane Rogue and Sugar Roulette as well. Seen Cane Rouge at the Bunker and the song Purple just absolutely floors you with its intensity and power. The Devil’s In The Detail by Sugar Roulette is a song I wish I wrote to be honest. It’s such an ear worm that has a lot of swagger.

Check out Fleeting Faces at their upcoming gig in Sunderland on February 15th at the Bunker!
