5 Questions with New Eye

Sunday, 28 June 2026

We sat down with New Eye a few weeks ago to discuss plans that they have for the Summer and which artist/band we should be listening too...

1. What made you want to get into music?

Rebecca : “I got into music through my family being that I grew up around musicians. I fell in love with the profession and wanted to pursue it.”

Rhys : “I’ve always been obsessed with music. I used to sit and listen for hours because it made me feel things I couldn't put into words. I realized the only way to really get those unexplainable feelings out was to start making the music myself."

Marcia : “Plug in Baby by Muse made me want to pick up guitar initially, but my first performance years later during my undergrad degree felt so incredible that I didn't want to do anything else!”

Aaron : “When I was a teenager I would listen to music any chance I got. I started falling in love with all the elements of the songs I enjoyed most.”

Leo : “I started off in my schools choir when I was around 8 or 9 and decided to branch out to different instruments during my early secondary school years which is where my love for music just skyrocketed.”

2. What are your plans for the rest of 2026?

Rebecca : “Plenty more gigs! Hopefully a headliner in the coming months.”

Rhys : "The focus for the rest of the year is all about scaling up. I'm really pushing to play bigger gigs, drop more music and just keep growing the fanbase."

Marcia : “My plan is to not only finish my masters degree in music production, but begin piecing together my home studio and playing more of course. Figuring out how to mod my instruments and work with their electronics is an interest as well.”

Aaron : “I plan to play more gigs, write more songs!”

Leo : “Recording. Getting as much of our music out to the people as possible.”

3.  What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Rebecca : “A highlight for me was our first gig at The Globe in Newcastle for pencil promotions was honestly a fantastic night with a great crowd and a great line up.”

Rhys : “The Tipsy Toad gig was easily a massive highlight for me because everyone was just having an absolute blast. People were coming in after watching the football, so the whole place was packed and the energy was just incredible."

Marcia : “Playing the Summer Streets Festival and The Cluny 1, as well as getting a first for my undergrad.”

Aaron : “My favourite highlight so far has been the tipsy toad gig, the energy was incredible!”

Leo : “So far my favourite highlight would have to be our first ever gig, the culmination of months of creating and rehearsing our music and seeing people genuinely enjoying our work is such an amazing feeling.”

4. Who are your inspirations music wise?

Rebecca : “We got a lot of inspiration from mostly 80s artists like Prefab Sprout, Deacon Blue and many more.”

Rhys : “Tears for Fears, Thompson Twins and Prince”

Marcia : “My main inspirations come from Muse, Bright Eyes, Geese, Green Day and more, all from their bassists and/or songwriting.”

Aaron : “My inspirations range from The Wombats, Hers, Wallows, The 1975, Prefab Sprout and Dayglow.

Leo : “I’d say my main inspirations when playing with the band would be Deacon Blue, A Flock of Seagulls and Smashing Pumpkins.”

5. Tell us, who is your favourite upcoming  band/artist you hope others check out.

Rebecca : “The local scene is so massive that it’s hard to highlight just one. There's so many incredible bands that I’m following.”

Rhys : “Definitely Polyvinyl. I love their sound because it’s refreshing to hear something different”.

Marcia : “Everyone should check out Claudia, they’re always getting better and are playing the BBC Introducing stage at Summer Streets this year, with some great vocals and musicality!”

Aaron : “The local scene is absolutely brilliant. I really enjoy what EXIT are doing, they are a very good band with an amazing sound.”

Leo : “I personally would recommend people check out Rivet, they’re an amazing rock band and one of my personal favourites.”
