5 Questions with Keane Baldwin

Friday, 2 May 2025

This week we sat down with Keane Baldwin to discuss his plans for 2025 and why he decided to go into music, and this is what he said...

1. What made you want to get into music?
The story of how I got into music is rather interesting really; I was never a fan on a large scale growing up, I was merely a casual listener and my household was not particularly musical. It wasn't until I was 16 after finishing my GCSE's I was on my Xbox and decided to go on YouTube as my friends were late to join me online. While browsing there was a video titled "Elton John - Your Song" and for whatever reason, in which I will never be able to explain, I clicked on the video and this famous track started to play. It was like I was living a life in black and white and that song made me see it in colour. That then led me down an Elton John rabbit hole and it didn't take long for me to realise that is what I wanted to do in life. It was early that next year, with the guidance of a friend, I started to teach myself piano as lessons were not affordable. I honed in on my craft after endless sleepless nights and started to play piano in public and gain a small following. Come February 2024 I started to professionally perform and the rest is history.

2. What are your plans for the rest of the year?
The rest of the year is all up in the air as of right now as there are always surprises and propositions around the corner but my current goals are to record the latter half of my sister EP's, I have my debut hometown show this summer at Bodega in Nottingham as well as making appearances at festivals. This is all alongside conducting business as usual by reaching out to labels attempting to get a record deal as well as reaching out to artists for support slots.

3. What has been the highlight of your career so far?
My career highlight thus far comes in two parts. As a support act I had the chance to perform to a sold out O2 City Hall which absolutely blew me away. The energy, the singing along and the reception afterwards was all a dream come true. The second half is, I did that well as a support act, I was asked to join the band in Scotland and one of those shows was at Barrowland in Glasgow. To perform on the same stage that has seen the likes of Oasis, David Bowie, Adele and Coldplay is truly a highlight for life.

4. Who are your inspirations music wise?
My inspirations come far and few really. The main of course being Elton John as previously discussed. Beyond Elton my inspirations range from the likes of Chris Martin, Gary Barlow, Sufjan Stevens, Adele, P!nk, Kylie Minouge and Bruce Sprngsteen. All these people inspire me not just melodically and instrumentally but they inspire my persona, my ideology and how to use music for the greater good.

5. Tell us, who is your favourite upcoming  band/artist you hope others check out.
As for upcoming artists, Diago are a band that are currently killing it and have a level of professionalism that is to be admired. These boys supported me at my debut headline at The Grove and they were insane!
