A few weeks ago we sat down with Naya Sego to discuss her plans for the rest of this year and what has been her favourite achievement so far in music, this is what she said...
1. What made you get into music?
I started writing songs when I was just a kid, I grew up on stage with musical theatre from a very young age so its always been a part of my life. I got really into it December 2024. Can't explain it any other way then I felt like I needed it? To tell these stories, get out of my comfort zone and just in general, create something I can be proud of.
2. What are your plans for the rest of the year?
I'll be getting back on stage asap and spending a couple weeks in the studio preparing my second project "The Frankenstein Complexe". I think I'm slowly finding my sound, very much looking forward to experimenting around it! Maybe even a second single before the end of the year but not sure
3.What has been the highlight of your career so far?
The highlight of my one year career was definitely tour. It helped me prove to myself that I'm capable of pursuing this life, both physically and emotionally. I was surprised at how normal it all felt. The chaos, the travel, the pressure before getting on stage. What I liked most was meeting so many wonderful people after the shows. It was so so special, got so many hugs and kind words, came at the right time in my life. I was afraid I'd have a big breakdown coming home since I thought id fall down from that high, but it's been a month and there's ben a long lasting feeling of happiness that I'd never felt before.
4.What are your inspirations music wise?
If I had to describe what inspired me I'd say its like my parents were Billy Joel and Whitney Houston. They raised me in funk and rock with both a rebellious energy and a desire to uplift people. They're my biggest inspirations, then my best friend would be Lily Allen who gave me my musical sarcasm and Paramore were a bunch of students I would look up to in school.
5.Who is your upcoming artist you want others to discover?
I went to school with Lyam and I adore his music. He's an even more gentle version of Conan Gray, has me crying at every song, his songwriting is incredible. Would definitely recommend, and this isn't because I know him, he's unironically one of my most streamed artists. He's an artist I definitely want to collaborate with
