1. What made you want to get into music?
I’ve been brought up around music from a young age but I really started getting into it when I got my first guitar. I got it from a charity shop for £1 and my dad restrung it for me. I painted the fret markers on myself with tipex and made a strap out of an old belt and fishing wire. I thought I was the coolest.
2. What are your plans for the rest of the year?
We’ve been back in the studio over the last few months recording some new tracks. Our last release ‘Domino’ was something very different and more “poppy” than our usual stuff as a band - but we’re looking forward to going back to our more riffy roots. We’re also looking forward to our Autumn headline show (yet to be announced).
3. What has been the highlight of your career so far?
It’s hard for us to choose just one “highlight” if I’m honest. We are forever surprised by how involved and hyped people get at our shows and it’s tempting to say that our “bigger” gigs at larger venues have been our highlights. But if I’m honest, some of the more intimate shows have meant a lot more to me. There’s something really special about being crammed into a dimly lit, small room with people who feel and experience our music in the same way. It’s personal and raw and messy. I love that.
4. Who are your inspirations music wise?
Inspiration wise - we’re a bit of an eclectic mix as a band. Jack’s into hiphop, Si’s from a funk background and Steve’s into heavier, low-guitar stuff. I think that’s why we like writing music together to be honest - because we don’t feel the need to pigeon hole our sound.
5. Who is your favourite upcoming band/artist you hope others check out?
I’m actually really looking forward to hearing more from The Goodnight Kid. They’ve just released their first song called ‘House (With a Balcony)’ and the chorus has been stuck in my head for days. We played with them in Newcastle earlier this year and I’ve been a fan ever since. Definitely ones to watch!
