The Support Act Podcast is hosted by Neave and Caitlin and the show currently runs on Future Hits Radio. The two hosts have previously interviewed North East artists such as Keiran Bowe and Elizabeth Liddle.
The Support Act on Future Hits was always a fun way for Caitlin and Neave to document their love of music. "For me, it was just a fun way to document every show we go to and something for us to look back on. We are both naturally chatty people so it just feels normal like we are having our own conversation." Caitlin said.
Neave said." I think for me I just knew I wanted to express myself in some sort of way. We grew up in the heights of YouTube and I knew that wasn't for me, so podcast seemed to be the happy medium for that."
Caitlin and Neave explained how they prepare for an interview. "If we are interviewing we would agree a time to meet, more often than not it’s before/after their set and we just find somewhere as quiet as possible to record. We like to plan out what we are going to ask but sometimes that changes depending on the flow of the interview. For the radio we tend to play music/artists that we like, we try to play new songs of local artists and artists we’ve been to see live."
The two women both agree that the North East lacks representation. "We both love the North East so much but I think the thing it lacks is representation compared to say London or Manchester and I think that means we've got to work a bit harder when you come from up here."
At the beginning of the podcast Caitlin and Neave didn't have an audience but they just kept going and have gotten opportunities from that. "Just go for it and don't worry about it doing well straight away. At the beginning, we had an audience of literally zero but over the year and a half, we have just kept on going and it has just continued to grow, we still forget sometimes that people listen! It’s such a fun process too we always have a right laugh recording and have made some amazing friends along the way who we probably wouldn’t have spoken to if it wasn’t for the podcast. You also don’t need fancy expensive equipment, we certainly don’t have that and are doing just fine. Hopefully one day we will both be using fancy expensive Rhode microphones but for now, we get by just fine with our Argos specials."
