This week on our throwback to The Indie Files we have an interview with Hannah Robinson talking about her experience with her mental health as an artist and this is what she said...
Hannah Robinson who is an independent artist from Newcastle spoke about how the cost of living has had a major impact on artists. "The cost of living certainly has made an impact on my mental health. There's nothing I'd love more than to be able to go to the studio every month or pull together an awesome music video. Unfortunately with the current financial climate, these things feel out of reach."
With being an independent artist can come with a lot of success and a lot of excitement which has saw Hannah support CVC and perform at local festivals. "The pros of being an independent artist have got to be the freedom you have - being able to make your own decisions is rewarding! Unfortunately, being independent does have its negative aspects... The cost of everything, having to be your own manager, you have to be able to handle rejection."
With mental health becoming a huge factor of struggle for a lot of independent artists Hannah Robinson's main tip of advice is to turn off social media. "My best advice for an artist struggling with their mental health is to take yourself off social media if you need to. If things are a bit intense, if you're comparing yourself, if you're worrying that your music isn't doing as well as others take a break."
